This project began with a team from the Rocky Mountains of Utah and Colorado at the International Elbrus Race on Elbrus, one of the Seven Summits, an 18,500' volcano in the Caucasus of Russia. We took 3rd and 5th place in Fall 2013. Follow training, test races, goals, technique, theory and fun as we work to achieve our dreams. Right now I'm alone here [Charles] so this reflects my own races, runs, training, and challenges. Please subscribe and comment when/if you can. Please share.
I downloaded a .gpx from Strava and a .fit.gz (zipped .fit) from Training Peaks. When I attempted to edit the extracted Training Peaks .fit it was too corrupted to use so I had to check out the Strava .gpx.
I had to first convert it and I used a free app called GPSBabel (gpsbabel.org) to convert the .gpx to a .fit so I could extract a segment of the run, then use GPSBabel again to convert the new .fit to .gpx so the Suunto 9 could use it for my waypoints/track.
Very painful all around and took a bit longer than planned, mostly because I didn't know it would fail, or what formats I needed. I could do it a fraction of the time now, like maybe 5 minutes total now that I know the process.
My loss is your gain, here are the steps you need depending of course on what your watch requires.
It's supposed to be easy, right? So I took one for the team and sorted it out, and now I will share it with you. RunCline imports as a .fit. Runtastic says it needs a .tcx or .gpx.
Well where do I import my RunCline in that allows me to export as a .tcx or .gpx? Here you go. Despite a bunch of errors and wandering around, I solve this issue for you.
Why are we connecting Zwift to Adidas for the "Run for the Oceans" upcoming event?
Here's some detail for you:
FIGHTING OCEAN POLLUTION TOGETHER
From May 28 - June 8 we will #RunForTheOceans. Together with adidas and the Parley Ocean School, we’ll help reduce the amount of plastic waste that makes it into our oceans. For every 1 km you run, 10 bottles will be removed and intercepted from beaches and island communities (up to 500,000 pounds).
I admit it wasn't easy, and the free level of the App Formerly Known As Runtastic has some level of lameness, but I'm doing my part. You know, since I'll be logging in my 15k of running that very long week on Zwift Running anyway. How about you? Let me know how it goes for you. #zwiftrunning
What happens when you edit your video in 4x speed?
You get a 10 minute speedrun through the new "Japan" map area in Zwift Running, Makuri Island.
Even though I had some decent views on my first Makuri Island Zwift Running Sea to Trees route yesterday, this just had to be done. It's actually funny to watch myself all stop motiony there in the lower right corner. It's funny to watch my virtual Zwift Running avatar all stop motiony. Anyway, hope you enjoy this map as much as I have.
Did you get a chance to do it? Is it live in AppleTV yet? Let me know. I'm going to explore and record more here in the next few weeks, so stay tuned for more exciting run-alongs here.
Be sure to subscribe and watch this playlist for the rest of the story.
Have you been as excited as I have been to receive this awesome new world in Zwift Running? Makuri Island honoring Japan with the Sea to Tree Route which I'm showing complete here in the default direction.
I had tried yesterday on the AppleTV but it wasn't available quite yet. Apple is always just a bit behind the rest due to the App Store having to approve updates for most apps?
Anyway, took my laptop out to the garage, put new batteries in my Bluetooth keyboard, hooked up an ancient webcam, a lavalier mic and off I go. Running Stryd footpod and Wahoo TickrX heart rate strap to a Win10 gaming laptop via ANT+ on an extender cable.
As a "backup" I'm also recording via RunCline on an iPad then exporting to Stryd Power Center. What's the dif? In Zwift you don't get elevation reporting unless you use RunCline as your Bluetooth sender. This is maybe important if elevation is your main goal of a workout, but at 2% incline I wasn't about to worry about it this time around.
Due to unsolvable issues connecting my Stryd footpod to Zwift Running to my Win10 PC via ANT+ I decided to try the Runcline App in my iPad. Runcline acts as a Bluetooth Bridge between the footpod and Zwift. Sadly that requires me to use another Bridge - in this case the Zwift Companion App on my Android phone. Whew! What a mess. But that at least allows me to gather up the full range of Stryd statistics, such as ground contact time, etc. that are normally missing from Zwift exports. It also allows me to gather incline/elevation gain data that are very important to my training. So I installed it, jumped through a few hoops, endured a few back-and-forth pair/re-pair issues and finally got the stats I wanted. I verified it in Training Peaks, and while there are still a few things to mess with and sort out, I think it will work. For now...
Amazing. Simply amazing. Wish I were there. When they canceled the Broken Arrow this past summer (for "reasons") I was nearly devastated. Totally lost a lot of my drive and motivation. Previous to that I was on my training program, starting to become the best me possible and shooting for an Age Group placement, which I would have had in 2019 if I were a week older. Anyway, here's a link to the story, courtesy of our really good buds over at the big FB:
